<The Set Up>
I’d thought about it lot, and it made sense to me. As a modern male, as a divorcee, and as a believer in liberated women – I was done chasing the woman. It was time for a turnabout. If this one wanted to make a groom of me she would earn it. Down on one knee, engagement ring, the works!
So I waited.
And waited.
Months went by…
Until finally five years into our relationship hard reality set in (women get their way) and I bought the ring!
<Cupid>
Megan is Kim’s daughter. She and Grampa helped Joseph pick out the perfect ring to symbolize a life-long marriage. Megan was so very helpful and strongly suggested the silver band with a beautiful diamond setting. It was just perfect!
<The Deed>
Joseph Ammons was born on September 8th, so it wasn’t just by chance that the entire family was out for an elegant meal at a very picturesque location high above downtown Portland on this date.
And in fact, it led to a smooth proposal line: “Kim, I want nothing else for my birthday, except for you to be my wife. Will you marry me?”
<The Shocker!>
I waited anxiously as the question hung in the air. My heart pounded; throat dried up; knee ached. ‘What is she fiddling with?’ I thought, holding up her ring.
All my thoughts went flat-line as Kim responded “Only if you will be my husband!” and produced HER OWN RING FOR ME!
WAH! This couldn’t be happening. What? How? I uh… “Yes, of course!” I managed with my mouth still wide open and the utter shock still coursing through me. She had asked me to marry her after all! Haha. I literally did a roll on the floor laughing.
<Cupid is Slick>
It turns out that Kim was shocked too! Though she had purchased her own engagement ring several months earlier and showed it to Cupid (aka Megan), she had no idea that Megan had secreted the ring into the restaurant that night knowing Joseph was going to propose. As Joseph dropped to one knee, Megan smoothly handed her Mom the ring to be presented at just the right time.
(And of course, the rings look great together on our hands!)
