DATELINE + SETTING: January 9, the day before the operation; reviewing MRI scans
As a singer and guitar player, tonality is important and knowing how your body vibrates is crucial to getting the correct the pitch with the voice. So it occurred to me that after my craniotomy, I was going to have a small, titanium plate in my head and it may be helpful to know at which frequency a natural resonance might occur (aside: If you didn’t know it, harmonic resonance is the way that powerful singers can shatter a crystal glass). So as I was consulting with my Neurosurgeon, I asked “Do you know the resonant frequency of VIBRANIUM, Doc?”, not realizing until it was out of my mouth that I meant to say ‘titanium’.
Without missing a beat he smiled and said : “You know, I’m not Captain America and I don’t know that answer. Let me check with my team and I will back to you on that. ”
