Joey, you’re a THINKER
All my life I can remember my Dad telling me that and it always feels true.
Writing helps organize my thoughts, so since learning that skill (1st grade) I have always been a writer, too (update for this generation – writer means “content creator”)
This Thought Thread began in the Star Trek universe: watching my icons on the TV and talking about them with my peer group, I could never decide which character I wanted to be like. It turns out, I aspired to be like all of them
KIRK – for his sense of adventure, for his contribution to females as a “lady’s man” and to males as a “man’s man”, and (do your recall this? did you watch the original show?) he was a writer via the STARLOG
SPOCK – for his brain, for infallible, perfect logic, for the obvious “uniqueness” via heritage
McCOY – for his friendship to KIRK, for his loyalty to Starfleet, and he, too, got a good share of action & adventure!
But I kinda became SCOTTY – it was simply the most practical role-model in my world of humble financial means , intelligence, and laziness.
In 3rd grade I wrote my first play. I was part of a creative team in an after-school program called PATS (Program for Academically Talented Students) at Orangewood Elementary School in Fort Meyers, FL and the play needed a plot. I had recently been watching and re-watching (total viewing at that time was 13) a film named Star Wars and decided that Darth Vader (an obvious cyborg of some sort) had just enough hate in him to rob Earth of their most beloved gnome – Santa Claus. <personal side note: My available family at that time would attest to these facts but Dad has passed away, Mom is impaired , and my Sister … I think she only started remembering things this past week!)
Today, C3PO has become the character DATA, and in the recent PICARD incarnation of Star Trek data has essentially become human.
These folks are actors.
These personae are characters.
I am a thinker.
